Record breaker Cristiano Ronaldo
Portugal v Austria was a special occasion for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
As usual, Ronaldo was captaining his country on Saturday night at Euro 2016, and the match was a milestone in the forward’s incredible career.
Setting a new record, Cristiano Ronaldo played his 128th match for Portugal against the Austrians.
That record surpassed Luis Figo, to make Cristiano the most capped player in the history of his national team.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Euro record
Aside from becoming the most capped player in Portuguese history, Ronaldo is on the verge of a Euro record too.
The match against Austria was Ronaldo’s 16th game at European Championship finals.
That equals the totals of French legendary defender Lilian Thuram and former Holland and Man United goalie Edwin van der Sar, who previously jointly held the most matches at the games.
For the record, Ronaldo is Portugal’s highest ever goalscorer with 58 goals to his name.
