Chief Deji Aderemi, a seasoned actor in Nollywood widely known as Olofa Ina, has passed away. The news of his demise was shared by fellow actor Saidi Balogun on Thursday through his Instagram page.
While the cause of death was not provided, Olofa Ina’s significant contributions to the Nigerian film industry were acknowledged.
Born on May 15, 1950, Chief Adedeji Aderemi began his education at St Peters Anglican Primary School in 1957, completing his primary education in 1962. Subsequently, he attended Baptist Secondary Modern School, Ode-Omu, graduating in 1965. After training as a carpenter at Olukorede Furniture Industry in 1970, he worked as a Grade II officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport in Ibadan until 1977.
In 1980, Olofa Ina transitioned to a full-time acting career, having formed the Olofa Ina Theatre Group in 1972. The group, which included talents like Late Oyetunji, Gbolagade Akinpelu, Dasofunjo, and Erinfolami, pioneered the depiction of epic Yoruba histories on screen, particularly narratives related to ancient Yoruba warlords between the 18th and 19th centuries. Olofa Ina Theatre Group achieved considerable success in its time.
