UK-based Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega has sparked discussion after referring to Afrobeats superstar Davido as a gospel artiste.
Adegboyega explained that gospel means “good news” and believes Davido spreads positivity through his music. During an episode of the Off The Record podcast, Tobi Adegboyega cited Davido’s song “Stand Strong” as an example of uplifting content that fits the gospel narrative.
He defended his choice of featuring secular musicians, including Zlatan, at his birthday celebration, stating they are close friends who support him unconditionally. Adegboyega dismissed criticism from gospel artistes, emphasizing his preference for surrounding himself with supportive individuals.
He concluded that his friends, including Davido and Zlatan, will always perform at his events, and the next one will be even bigger.
