The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) community is mourning the loss of Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, a renowned Biochemical Toxicology expert. He was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver on the newly rehabilitated Kemta-Somorin Road on Sunday.
Professor Ademuyiwa, in his early 60s, had just alighted from a cab and was about to cross the road when a reckless driver struck him and fled the scene. This devastating incident occurred just weeks before his scheduled inaugural lecture on March 12th, 2025.
The Chairman of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate Community Development Association (CDA), Dr. Ayo Ajasa, condemned the tragic loss, stating that it was entirely avoidable. He lamented that the state government had ignored repeated pleas to install speed breakers on the road.
Ajasa urged the government to take immediate action, installing speed breakers, lorry barriers, and clear traffic signage to prevent further accidents. He also called for stricter law enforcement to curb excessive speeding within the estate.
The community is demanding justice and safer roads, holding the government accountable for the loss of Professor Ademuyiwa’s life. Reactions have poured in, with many mourning the loss of a dedicated academic and advocate for road safety.
