The mother of Olori Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi has issued a heartfelt appeal for her daughter’s release, as she faces murder charges following a tragic stampede at her funfair in Ibadan.
In a viral video, the distressed mother tearfully defended Olori Naomi’s innocence, highlighting her long-standing commitment to charitable works. “She has been doing this charity for over ten years, helping children, old people, and pregnant women,” she said.
Addressing the families affected by the incident, she added, “I commiserate with you. Please release my child; she’s very innocent. Help me, the government; release my daughter.”
Olori Naomi, the former queen of the Ooni of Ife, is accused of involvement in a scheme leading to accelerated deaths during the event. She faces charges alongside other organizers, including broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat, under Section 324 of the Criminal Code of Oyo State.
The plea has sparked widespread reactions online, with many calling for a fair and transparent investigation into the incident. While public sympathy grows for Olori Naomi and her family, others demand accountability.
