The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced a significant increase in the monthly allowance for corps members, from N33,000 to N77,000, effective February 2025 . This increase is part of the 2025 Federal Government budget, as disclosed by Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the NYSC director general.
The increment is a welcome development, considering the previous increase in the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. Corps members are expected to receive the new allowance once the budget is passed ¹.
In related news, the Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services of the NYSC, Omotade Ayodele, has emphasized the importance of corps members acquiring skills through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. Ayodele encouraged corps members to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and develop valuable skills to secure their future.
It’s worth noting that the NYSC has been working to improve the welfare and security of corps members, including ensuring they are not deployed to areas with security threats.
