Shocked by the discovery, Vicky Umodu decided to act with honesty and integrity. Instead of keeping the money for herself, she promptly returned the substantial sum, amounting to N14.9 million ($37,500), to the family that had given her the chairs.
Her act of honesty garnered attention and commendation from the community, as well as media coverage. Vicky Umodu’s integrity and ethical decision to return the money serve as a positive example of integrity and good character.
Overwhelmed with the discovery, Vicky Umodu said;
“I just moved in, and I don’t have anything in my house. I was so excited, so we picked it up and brought it in. ‘I was just telling my son, ‘Come, come, come!’ I was screaming, ‘This is money! I need to call the guy!’”
Determined to do the right thing, Vicky Umodu promptly contacted the family who had provided her with the chairs.
Grateful for her honesty, the family expressed their appreciation for Vicky Umodu’s integrity in returning the substantial sum of money.
“God has been kind to me and my children. They’re all alive and well. I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?.“ the woman said.
After returning the money, the family reciprocated Vicky Umodu’s honesty by gifting her a sum of N900,000 ($2,250).
