Popular Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has responded on social media days after facing criticism for using the Niqab as a costume in an upcoming movie.
Nancy had shared photos on her verified Instagram page, showing herself and her female colleagues dressed in Niqabs while casting for a yet-to-be-released film. In the scenes depicted, the actresses are shown using guns to rob a bank.
This portrayal did not sit well with many Muslims, particularly those who wear the Niqab, as they felt it disrespected their religion and what the attire represents. They criticized Nancy and the film’s cast for their insensitive depiction.
Nancy Isime’s use of the Niqab in such a context has sparked significant backlash, with many Muslims expressing their displeasure and accusing the actress of disrespecting their faith.
An Instagram user identified as queen.ashreed wrote; “It’s so disappointing that @femiadebayosalami is among the cast. A total disgrace to Islam. He want to tell us that he doesn’t know that NiQab is not a custome for anything not to talk of arm robbers. Nonsense amd ingredients!”
Another user known as thekaothar said; “Hey Nancy, you probably didn’t know let me educate you. A Muslim woman’s attire is not worn to ‘hide her identity’ as you may think. It is work as a means of obedience to commands of Allaah and as an identity in itself. It is utterly disrespectful to portray the dressing as a means of disguise. What happens to using a mask? Or other attire to disguise and gain entry to the robbery scene? This is totally wrong.”

potabumeenat: Another stab on our faces. I am sure they know, they are aware of the wrongs but they do it countless times to awaken Our anger. A veil of honor has become a subject of mockery. The hatred, the discrimination is not enough and now they are fueling it with this nonsense. Since when did the hijab turn to a costume for robbers. Do not be quiet and watch your religion ridiculed in such manners.
Following the development, Nancy Isime via her Instagram page share new photos of her self as she disclosed that she is not in for any drama or gossip.
She added that she is only interested in achieving her goals, making money, and getting peace.
In the second slide of her post she said; “Really out the way. In my own world. No drama, no gossip, Just goals and money. Peace is where I’m at.”
She added in the 3rd slide; “I don’t bother nobody and I’m not bothered by nobody. That’s my peace.”
