Mrs. Falilat Olaonipekun, the mother of the late Nigerian rapper Oladapo Olaitan Olanipekun, professionally known as Dagrin, has expressed her frustration over the unjust withholding of her son’s hard-earned royalties by his management team.
In a recent meeting organized by media personality Baba Egbe and music promoter Kogbagidi, Dagrin’s mother and her associates discussed her general welfare and the complex issue surrounding her late son’s royalties.
When asked for updates on the royalties, Mrs. Olaonipekun responded negatively, indicating that she has not received any of her late son’s music royalties. She recounted a recent conversation with Dagrin’s management, where they informed her that they are awaiting payment from a revenue source and are delaying the transfer of funds until the transaction is completed.
In a video from the meeting, Mrs. Olaonipekun displayed paperwork provided by the management team, highlighting the commitment to a specific amount that has yet to be disbursed. Reflecting on the assurances given, she expressed her anticipation for the promised response from the management, noting that her last interaction with them was in December 2023, followed by a troubling silence.
Baba Egbe assured Mrs. Olaonipekun of his commitment to the cause, pledging to enlist the services of an experienced music lawyer to advocate on her behalf against the management team.
During the discussions, the conversation also touched on her stalled house project. Baba Egbe and Kogbagidi expressed keen interest in its progress and discussed plans to involve Dagrin’s father in the meeting. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances prevented him from attending.
