A devastating incident has shaken the community of Ilorin, Kwara State, after a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, was brutally murdered for ritual purposes. The perpetrator, Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, an Islamic cleric, had met the victim on Facebook and lured her to his residence.
According to reports, Yetunde had attended a naming ceremony when she received a call from a friend. She stepped out to answer the call and subsequently disappeared. Her family and friends launched a frantic search, but she was nowhere to be found.
Her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported her missing on Tuesday at the Oja-Oba Police Division in Ilorin. The police tracked her last call, which led them to the suspect’s residence in the Ofa Garage area of Ilorin.
Initially, the suspect denied any involvement in Yetunde’s disappearance. However, during a search of his house, he confessed that she had visited him but died from an asthma attack. Further investigation revealed a gruesome scene: Yetunde’s body was found dismembered and hidden in a bowl, alongside tools allegedly used to dismember her.
The suspect, now in custody at the Kwara State Police Headquarters, is believed to have used Facebook to lure Yetunde to her death. The evidence from his home suggests that he may have committed similar atrocities in the past.
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the incident and is currently investigating the case. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and many are calling for justice to be served.
Sadly, this is not the first time such a horrific incident has occurred in Ilorin. In August 2024, a 21-year-old student from Kwara State College of Health Technology, Mojisola Awesu, was found dead at a garbage dump in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin. Her death was also linked to a ritual killing.
The community is still reeling from these tragic events, and many are demanding greater safety measures to protect young people from such heinous crimes.
