Eight days after gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi was arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu, his father, Sunday Ajayi, has publicly appealed for mercy from the Nigerian government.
In an emotional interview with Channels TV, Mr. Ajayi pleaded, “I want the government to assist me; let them resolve the matter. I beg. Help me appeal to the people; let them forgive him.”
The family, who resides in the Orozo community, Nasarawa State, is struggling to come to terms with the devastating incident. Mr. Ajayi’s parents and siblings clarified that he was not an outcast and had not been disowned.
While his father appealed for leniency, his mother expressed her willingness to let the authorities handle the case. She acknowledged the severity of the crime, saying, “If it were one of my daughters who suffered such a gruesome murder, how would I feel? So, I don’t know; whatever the government decides to do with the case is up to them.”
The Nigerian police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the Nasarawa State Government has assured the public that justice will prevail.
Social media users have shared mixed reactions to the appeal, with some calling for justice and others expressing sympathy for the family.
