Edwin Clark, a renowned Nigerian statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, has passed away at the age of 97. Clark’s death was confirmed by his family in a statement released on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 . According to the statement, Clark passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Born on May 25, 1927, in Kiagbodo, Delta State, Clark was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, serving as Federal Commissioner for Information in 1975 and working with the administrations of military governor Samuel Ogbemudia and head of state General Yakubu Gowon between 1966 and 1975.
Clark was also a strong advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta region and played a key role in promoting justice, equity, and equality for the people of the region. He was often described as a “national treasure” and an outstanding ambassador of the Ijaw nation.
His passing comes just days after the death of nationalist Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who died at the age of 95. Clark’s family has appreciated prayers and support during this difficult time, with other details to be announced later.
