Popular Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has stirred up conversation online after openly expressing his frustration over the ongoing economic hardship in Nigeria.
Taking to his Instagram page, the movie star revealed his regret for not engaging in “Yahoo Yahoo,” a local term for internet fraud, due to the severe financial struggles he faces despite his efforts to earn a legitimate living.
Aremu Afolayan, a well-known figure in Nollywood, has starred in numerous films such as “Idamu Akoto,” “Eji Owuro,” and “Afoju Meta.” He is also the brother of prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, including movie producer Kunle Afolayan, actor Gabriel Afolayan, and actress Moji Afolayan.
Despite his success as an actor, Aremu lamented that legitimate work has become almost futile due to the skyrocketing prices of petrol, food, and other essentials, making it increasingly difficult to sustain a living.
He wrote, “All of d days them dey talk about Yahoo Yahoo, na today I regret am pass say I no do am. Legitimate hustling never felt super useless”.
