Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, a Catholic missionary priest in Gambia, has strongly criticized modern-day Christianity, alleging that many churchgoers secretly patronize native doctors and engage in juju practices.
In a fiery Facebook post, Fr. Ugwu argued that this double life has allowed juju practices to infiltrate Christian altars. He specifically called out Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, founder of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry (CMDM), accusing him of running a ministry steeped in traditional sorcery.
Fr. Ugwu also criticized Prophet Odumeje, leader of The Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, for incorporating occult rituals into his ministry. He condemned practices such as selling “holy” water and oil, and using photographs to “force” marriages.
Fr. Ugwu labeled these practices as juju disguised as Christianity, emphasizing that true faith should not involve fear, manipulation, or superstition. He urged Christians to re-examine their beliefs and practices, warning that the “upgraded version of juju and witchcraft” prevalent in some African Christian communities is not genuine Christianity.
