A young Nigerian woman’s aspiration for a better life overseas was crushed when her visa application was rejected.
This setback came after the widely publicized case of a Nigerian school proprietor who absconded after collecting fees from students for their SSCE exams. The woman, named Gracious Chioma, revealed that she had sold all her belongings with hopes of starting anew abroad, only to face disappointment.
Following the denial of her visa, Gracious found herself stranded in Nigeria without adequate means of support. She shared the hardships she now faces, including sleeping on the floor after selling her bed and frame. In a video she posted, Gracious showed her meager living conditions, including a small rechargeable fan and a lack of curtains in her room. Additionally, her kitchen was nearly empty, indicating a shortage of food supplies.
She said, “I sold everything in my house because I thought I would relocate. The visa was later denied then I started living in an empty apartment with no curtains in it and sleeping on the floor. This is my morning routine in an empty apartment.”
