Veteran Actor, folksinger, Jimi Solanke dies at 82

A veteran actor, storyteller, folk singer, poet, and playwright, Jimi Solanke, has reportedly died at the age of 82.

The 82-year-old superstar reportedly passed away on Monday morning after facing an unknown illness.

As per the reports, the well-known figure, celebrated for his various talents, died early on Monday after a short sickness while heading to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

Jimi Solanke was born on July 4, 1942, in Ipara Remo. He started his artistic journey as one of the first members of the Orisun Theatre Group, established in 1961 by the renowned Wole Soyinka.

Solanke demonstrated his versatility in memorable performances like “Death and the King’s Horseman,” “Kurunmi,” “Kongi’s Harvest,” “The Divorce,” and “Ovaramwen Nogbaisi.” His engaging stage presence and theatrical excellence brought him praise and acknowledgment, both nationally and internationally, among many other achievements.
