Grammy Award-Winner Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, recently disclosed the reason behind his apparent unhappiness at a recent UK event. Fans had raised concerns about his demeanor during the premiere of “Bob Marley: One Love” in London.
Wizkid, known for hits like “Essence,” confidently walked the red carpet, striking poses for the paparazzi, and exuding a charismatic superstar presence at the UK premiere. The film chronicles the life of legendary reggae singer Bob Marley, from his rise to fame to his passing in 1981, showcasing how his music and lyrical genius shaped the world.
The event triggered a deep reflection in Wizkid, causing him to miss his late mother, Mrs. Dolapo Balogun, who passed away on August 18th, 2023, at the age of 66. Since his mother’s demise, Wizkid had organized a memorable burial party and had been in Nigeria.
Following the premiere, images and videos of Wizkid circulated online, with some commenting on his perceived aged appearance and troubled expression. In response, Wizkid took to his Instagram stories on January 31st, 2024, acknowledging that he had lost himself since his mother’s passing. The revelation provided insight into the emotional toll the loss has taken on the acclaimed artist.
He wrote; “Look in the mirror didn’t feel myself,! mama left me and I lost myself! can wait to feel myself again! life of a soldier! military wit it!
“And I’m thankful you all going thru this phase with me, u seen me at my lowest now, when u see me back on my high, no complain.
Until then, I dey give slap away for free, so leave. Expensive pain.”
