Despite initial reports suggesting that Nollywood actor and director Azeez Ijaduade was shot in Iperu Remo, Ogun State, the state police command has clarified that the incident resulted from an accidental discharge of a firearm by a police officer on Sunday.

The revelation contradicts earlier information shared by his colleague Abiodun Adebanjo on Sunday through his Instagram handle, @iamabiodunadebanjo, who had initially attributed the incident to a trigger-happy policeman.

The actor wrote, “Please we need help in Iperu. My director, Azeez Ijaduade, @kingzeez1, was shot by Nigerian police personnel.

“He is presently at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.

“Anybody with the contacts of the Police IG or Commissioner should reach out.”

Notwithstanding, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, emphatically conveyed in an exclusive discussion with PUNCH Online on Sunday morning that a member of the police force, assigned to the executives of Bramajaj Company Limited, Ogere Remo, was involved in the incident“accidentally discharged a shot from his rifle” during the end-of-year party of the company at a hotel in Iperu.

In the interim, it was reported that Azeez Ijaduade, along with his crew members and fellow actors, was engaged in a film shoot at the aforementioned hotel when the gunshot struck the Nollywood actor’s neck.

The police authorities additionally revealed that the actor was promptly transported to the hospital, where he is reported to be currently undergoing treatment and showing signs of improvement.

“The victim is currently in a stable condition,” Odutola said.
