Nigerian rapper and singer Ice Prince has opened up about his time in prison, describing it as a “terrible experience.”
In September 2022, Ice Prince was arrested and sent to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting a police officer. He was later released on bail.
Speaking on the ‘Listen’ podcast, Ice Prince shared his side of the story, stating that the incident was blown out of proportion. He claimed that he was merely joking with the police officer and left the scene when the officer got into his car during a stop-and-search.
He said, “Whatever story you were told is not what happened. The case is over now, so I can talk about it. I spent six days in jail. I didn’t get preferential treatment. It’s prison, so there was no preferential treatment. I’m not talking about a police cell.
“I have seen a lot of celebrities and public figures who went to police cells come out to brag as if they went through some sht. If you’ve never been to prison, you ain’t seen sht yet. I can’t explain it. It’s a different world. I don’t pray for my worst enemy to experience it. You have to be careful out there because mistakes can take you there. There are so many innocent people in there. It wasn’t a good experience.
“But I made friends in there. We hung out, chatted. It’s a different institution of higher learning.”
Ice Prince spent six days in prison, where he said he received no special treatment. He reflected on the experience, saying, “If you’ve never been to prison, you ain’t seen nothing yet. It’s a different world. I don’t pray for my worst enemy to experience it.”
Despite the challenges, Ice Prince said he made friends during his time in prison and learned valuable lessons. He cautioned others to be careful and mindful of their actions, as mistakes can have severe consequences.
