Nigerian rapper Eldee The Don has revealed that he played a significant role in encouraging Wizkid to focus on Afrobeats early in his career.
During an appearance on the Adesope Live show, Eldee explained that when Wizkid joined EME record label, he was initially more interested in Reggae and Dancehall. However, he advised him to explore music with Nigerian roots instead.
Eldee recalled: “Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him, but I told him he needed to find a middle ground and create something Nigerian with a lot of flavor.”
According to him, Wizkid took his advice and began producing Afropop tracks like ‘Don’t Dull,’ which helped launch his career and earn him widespread recognition.
