Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian separatist agitator, has been arrested in Finland alongside four others on allegations of terror-related activities. Ekpa, who claims to be the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, was remanded in custody by the district court of Päijät-Häme on suspicion of publicly inciting terrorist crimes.
According to the Central Criminal Police in Finland, Ekpa is accused of promoting violence against civilians and authorities in South-Eastern Nigeria through his social media channels. The police also suspect that he has been financing terrorist activities from Finland.
The four other individuals arrested were detained for allegedly financing terrorist crimes. The Finnish authorities, working with international partners, are investigating the case to determine the extent of Ekpa’s involvement in fostering unrest.
