People often ask if they can get a Canadian work permit without a job offer. Have you always wanted to work abroad? Or maybe you already have a job and are not sure if you can get a work permit? The answer depends on the type of job you have applied for.
However, you should also know that not all jobs require a work permit. In the meantime, as an applicant, you need to know what a work permit is and what types are available.
What is a work permit?
A work permit is a document that certifies that you are allowed to work in Canada. Therefore, it is important that you have it if you plan to work there.
Types of work permits
There are different categories of foreign workers in Canada. Foreign workers are divided into two groups;
-
- Temporary workers;
-
- Permanent employees.
Temporary workers
A temporary worker is someone who stays for a certain period of time and then leaves. Therefore, applicants must return to their home country after a certain period of time. However, there are two groups of temporary workers;
Open work permit
This type of work permit allows foreign workers to work for any organization or company. However, these companies must abide by standard labor laws in Canada. However, businesses such as escort services, erotic massage or exotic dancing are excluded.
Employer Specific Work Permit
Employer-specific permits are limited. That is, you cannot work for different organizations. You are limited to only one specific employer.
Permanent employees
Permanent employees are applicants who intend to settle in Canada permanently. Of course, they are expected to have a different type of work permit. However, to qualify for this, you must be a skilled professional who has a lot of work experience.
Generally, applicants who wish to immigrate permanently can do so through the Express Entry system. This has the advantage that you do not have to show a job offer before applying for immigration. However, you must be registered with Employment and Social Development Canada’s job board in order to be connected with a Canadian employer.
In addition, young people who have no work experience but would like to work there can also apply. However, young people must apply to International Experience Canada. This only applies to people between the ages of 18 and 30. Applicants can work in any field of their choice to gain their work experience in any location.
Jobs for which a work permit is required
There are certain jobs that require a work permit that are very important in Canada. Two common examples of jobs that require a work permit are;
-
- Caregivers;
-
- Agricultural Workers.
Caregivers
These are people who take care of the elderly, seniors, disabled and children. There are caregivers who are lucky enough to live where they work because the people they work for provide them with housing. However, there are also people who cannot afford this luxury.
Agricultural workers
Agricultural workers are people who work in farms and food factories.
They need a job offer to apply for a work permit.
