Nigerian Senator Orji Uzor Kalu recently sparked controversy when he claimed that his monthly salary of ₦14 million is insufficient to meet his needs and those of his constituents. In an interview, Kalu addressed various topics, including the government’s alleged SUV purchases for senators and the struggles faced by the masses.
Kalu clarified that senators didn’t receive personal vehicles from the government, but rather, the vehicles were intended for committee use. However, this didn’t stop Seun, the news correspondent, from highlighting the stark contrast between the senators’ lifestyles and the struggles of the masses, especially considering their substantial salaries.
“I personally never got any luxury

As a representative, Kalu takes on various responsibilities, including covering school fees and medical bills for constituents in need. Despite his significant salary, he feels it’s not enough to support both his personal needs and those of his constituency.
It’s worth noting that Kalu has had a long and complex career in politics, serving as governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007 and later becoming a senator. His business ventures and philanthropic efforts have also been well-documented.
