An aide to billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu has responded to recent rumors circulating online, suggesting that Nigerian singer Davido has replaced Wizkid as the new brand ambassador of the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
This speculation comes amid the ongoing online feud between the two Afrobeat stars, reportedly fueled by Davido’s recent UBA gigs and a Puma deal, both of which were previously associated with Wizkid.
The rivalry escalated after Davido’s impressive performance at a UBA cocktail event in the USA, where Tony Elumelu and others were visibly thrilled by his appearance. Following the event, Davido was flown to Spain by Elumelu to perform at the 50th birthday celebration of Dupe Olusola, the Managing Director of Transcorp Group, further strengthening their professional ties. Tony Elumelu, as the Chairman of UBA and owner of Transcorp Group, has deep investments in various sectors, including hospitality, power, and oil & gas.
As rumors of Davido becoming UBA’s new brand ambassador spread, a tweet by a social media user named Ruth went viral, claiming that Davido had officially taken over from Wizkid in this role. However, Tobi James, UBA Group’s head photographer, quickly debunked these claims on his social media page, clarifying that no such change in ambassadorship had taken place.
In the tweet, the Head photographer at UBA confirms Davido is not their brand ambassador.
