How I wished to be like Portable, that drops song everyday – D’banj reveals in recent interview

Nigerian singer and songwriter Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, expressed his admiration for his junior colleague Portable during a recent interview.

D’banj, who was a guest on Beat FM, revealed that he has no issue with how Portable conducts himself in public and even wishes he could be like the singer. The legendary ‘Koko Master’ showed interest in the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner’s way of expressing himself through music, stating that he used to be like him.

D’banj, who recently released his hit song ‘Since ’04,’ shared that back in the day, he would talk about whatever he felt at night by the next morning. He also touched on how social media has propelled the music business, making operating processes easier compared to the past when they had to wait weeks before taking certain actions.

During the interview, D’banj referred to himself as a “new cat” and applauded Portable for his unique style and approach to music.

In his words, “I wish I can be like Portable because he is doing the way I used to do. Anything that happens in the night, we call Don Jazzy and we are making it in the morning, them dem go dey tell us say make we wait for two to three weeks. Forget that. You know our own time, no social media but seeing the likes of Portable and other new cats doing wonders. That’s why I say I’m a new cat”.
