The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recently released the notorious internet fraudster Olalekan Jacob Ponle, also known as Mr Woodberry, after his arrest for money laundering.
Earlier, Intel Region reported that Mr Woodberry was apprehended in Dubai on June 10, 2020, alongside his close associate Ramon Hushpuppi Abbas, who is currently serving an 11-year sentence for a similar fraud charge.
In April 2023, Intel Region also reported that Woodberry pleaded guilty to internet fraud and agreed to pay $8 million (N6B) to victims, along with forfeiting luxury assets in Dubai.
In July 2023, the FBI hinted at releasing Mr Woodberry following a move to sell his 152 bitcoins (N3.6 billion). The latest information circulating online confirms that Mr Woodberry has indeed been released by the FBI, marking the end of his tumultuous journey in prison.
